Dr. Thurman’s Credentials & Licenses

As many of you know, Colorado significantly changed its mental health licensure requirements in July of 2021 under the “Sunset Mental Health Bill.” So, after practicing in the state as a private practice school psychologist for over 27 years, and with 3 doctoral-level degrees under my belt, I was faced with the challenge of no longer being able to renew a Colorado license. So, I went back to school!  I’ve since completed all coursework and supervision requirements and passed the Master Addiction Counselor Exam to become a Licensed Addiction’s Counselor. You may think this field is out of my area of expertise, but you might be surprised to know that gifted, 2e, and autistic populations are at a much higher than average risk for addiction, both for substance abuse and within online, screentime “process addiction” disorders. So I’m pleased to now offer this additional specialization as well. I have also completed the necessary coursework to offer clinical supervision for both LPC and LAC candidates. My formal degrees and credentials are detailed below.

Degrees:

University of Utah

M.S. in Educational Psychology and Specialist Master’s in School Psychology. I also completed the full doctoral-level course sequences in neuropsychological assessment and clinical counseling, along with the doctoral-level practicums and internship. But, I had two babies instead of completing the research courses for the full Ph.D.

University of Northern Colorado

Ph.D. in Special Education with Doctoral Minors in Statistics and Educational Technology. Here I did complete both the research courses and the dissertation for the Ph.D (the same requirements as those for my first degrees) with doctoral minors in statistics and educational technology.

International Institute of Original Medicine

Doctor of Naturopathy in Original Medicine Certificate within an ANMAB & AADP Accredited program. However, because Naturopathic Doctors in Colorado must also attend 2 years of medical school, I don’t practice naturopathy at this time, although this degree certainly informs my work.

Colorado School for Family Therapy

Master Addiction Counselor coursework and supervision within a NAADAC approved training program with passing scores on the NAADAC MAC Examination in August of 2023.

Current Licensure:

Licensed Addiction Counselor, Master’s Level, License # ACD 0002344
